Warangal District is located in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, India. Warangal District lies approximately between 17 19’ and 18 13’ north latitudes and 78 49’ and 80 13’ east longitude with Karimnagar district in north and Medak district in west, Nalgonda on South and Khammam on the East. Warangal which is around 143km from Hyderabad is one of the beautiful cities in Andhra Pradesh. The district headquarter is Warangal city which is also called as tri-city, as it includes Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet cities. Earlier Warangal was known as Ekasila nagaram and also as “Orugallu” (Orakallu) `Oru' means one and 'Kallu' means stone. It is said that entire warangal city was carved with a single stone. In 1200A.D Warangal was the capital of Kakatiya Dynasty (1100 – 1474 A.D). Its dynasty name come from their worship of a goddess called Kakati (Durga). This period is said to be the golden ages in Warangal and Telugu history. The Telugu Hindu rulers ruled the kingdom who encouraged and developed architecture, literature and art. The constructions like Thousand-pillar Temple , Ramappa temple and Warangal Fort which are some of the example of there art. Thus Warangal has the great history in the books of Indian ancient ages.
